A Bit About The C.R.S.

The Classic Rock Society of the U.K. formed in 1991, was run by a core of people decicated to bringing rock and progressive music, both classic and upcoming, to venues in the U.K.

They operated venues in Rotherham and around, including Wath-Upon-Dearne and Maltby (essentially the spiritual home of the C.R.S.), St. Helens (Liverpool), Norwich and London, as well as regularly sponsoring a stage at the annual Cambridge Rock Festival.

In 2009, after the annual awards, they announced that the Society would be closing at the end of June. This was due to various factors, including lack or time of the organisers and increasing difficulties finding suitable venues and getting people to commit to events in advance. However this was but also partly because of their own success, with more venues and promoters now offering established progressive and classic rock bands the opportunity to play.

Members got discounted entry to events and a regular magazine with free sampler CD, and the society ran an annual awards event with guest presenters. They had a number of high-profile musicians as patrons, including Steve Hackett, Bob Harris and Carl Palmer.
