The Enid were formed in 1974 by Robert John Godfrey, with guitarists Steve Stewart
and Francis Lickerish. They developed a progressive, symphonic rock sound that would
make E.L.P., Genesis or Yes sound like the Sex Pistols in comparison. Through the
mid seventies they toured and played the Reading Festival on a number of occasions,
in 1976 getting six encores.
By the end of the eighties things were changing and there were numerous changes in
line-up, various albums, but Godfrey remained and the band play on. In 2015 he announced
his impending retirement, handing the reins over to the new, younger members to take
the band forward.and with Joe Payne on vocals things looked promising. However by
late 2016 things had changed again with only three core member remaining, Jason Ducker
(guitar), Zachary Bullock (keys) and Dominic Tofield (percussion and bass).
