The story of the legendary Welsh band Man is a long and changing one, with numerous
members since they formed in 1969 with twin guitarists Micky Jones and Deke Leonard.
They were soon joined by bassist Martin Ace (who started as a third guitarist and
for many years they were the core members. Deke left and returned a few times, and
sadly Micky suffered a brain tmour and died in 2010. During his illness, son George
took his place and a couple of years later Martin Ace's son Josh also joined.
In 2008 George, together with long-serving Man drummer Bob Richards decided to leave
Man (although Man still play occasionally) but continue to play the band’s music –
as George says "One of the last things my father ever said to me was it’s up to you
now to keep my music alive". Now the legacy lives on, in the form of “Son Of Man”,
playing Man classics as well as new material.
In addition to George Jones (guitar) and Bob Richards on drums (he’s also worked with
Asia, Graham Bonnet, AC/DC and others), they initially featured Glenn Quinn (Tigertailz)
on guitar, with Ray Jones (bass), Marco James (keys) and Richie Galloni (vocals),
all from another well-known Welsh band, Sassafras. They were occasionally joined on
stage by Man's other original guitarist, the late but legendary Deke Leonard.Since
then Ray left to be replaced by Peter Stradling until he left and Ray returned. Glenn
has also now left the band.
